Ten things that we learned in our first year at the Hallam

January 19th, 2010

  1. If you are going to have a major leak on your first day of operation if it is going to happen anywhere it is better that it leaks on top of your foreman’s head as it will be fixed immediately they are afraid of water.
  2. Never, ever allow builders to be alone for a day in a spotlessly clean venue.
  3. Despite having the world and the builders wife on site, handover clean is not actually clean…it’s a very grey area, it’s a very dusty grey area. It’s actually the area of the whole building
  4. Everything looks better after some soap, water and elbow grease but all three need to be applied at once for it to work.
  5. Some Suppliers lie.
  6. A few suppliers lie a lot.
  7. There are suppliers who do not seem to be using the same calendar as you.
  8. We know a Supplier that  has no concept of what not having 250 chairs that match means to you.
  9. Worse still they also had no concept of what not having 250 chairs that match means to your client.
  10. It’s always good to have four other venues, two men, a small van and a dedicated team so you don’t have to disappoint a client.

Another New Year

January 19th, 2010

Most of you probably remember where you were for the New Year, I can’t say and I can’t remember. It’s not what you imagine, it all probably happened while I was asleep -  which was not for long. I do have quite a few witnesses -  in plane fact an aircraft full.

I am not too upset as I knew that there was another New Year still to come.

Today the 19th January is in fact the first day of another  New Year, the Second Year of the Hallam Conference Centre.

We at Cavendish Conference Venues  and from the entire  team at the Hallam Conference Centre would like to thank all of our existing clients and all of  the new clients who used the Hallam Conference Centre in our first year of operation and we very much look forward to our second year.

Cavendish Conference Venues embrace Google wave

January 19th, 2010

We are trialling a version of Google wave with the aim of integrating this technology into speaker presentations hopefully to make them truly interactive. Maybe we will be able to have a live dynamic presentation running with a social media input allowing virtual attendees to interact with the presentation. This is in a sense is a democratisation of webcasting technology, in that the latter is so technology heavy the number of users is inevitably restricted. For example at our America Square Conference Centre in the city of London we hosted a webcast last week for a large listed company to announce their annual results both to 140 delegates in the room but simultaneously to 80 analysts around the world. To put this technology in place took an engineer two days.  In an attempt to lighten this load for some time now at our Cavendish Conference Centre we have been trialling something along these lines using twitter feeds. We think the Google wave should allow us to a quantum step in what used to be called taking the classroom out of the school and to the children.

Londons Greenest Venue ?

January 15th, 2010

Having won gold in the Visit London sustainable awards we are Cavendish Conference Venues www.cavendishconferencevenues.com are taking our commitment further:

  1. Fully traceable menus. At the moment we offer as standard full tracebilility of all meat on all menus, we source from one named farm in Kent. We are now rolling this out to all products across our venues; we can offer menus with source details for all ingredients. We have used this to offer truly verifiable locally sourced menus.
  2. Car Sharing, we are setting up a system whereby we offer all delegates free of charge a forum to facilitate car sharing to and from the venue.
  3. At our America Square conference centre http://www.cavendishconferencevenues.co.uk/city-conference-venues we are offering state of the art webcasting facilities at cost. This takes our policy of bringing the venue closer to the client one step further.
  4. Finally our Cavendish Conference Centre http://www.cavendishconferencevenues.co.uk/west-end-conference-venues we are the first possibly the only and undoubtedly the best landfill neutral venue in Central London. We are now taken this one step further by further localizing our composting site, in 2009 it was 65km form us we now use a site 43km away.

America Square Conference Centre

January 12th, 2010

The moment of truth is approaching; we are webcasting a major PLC’s results presentation. We are doing this on possibly the most resilient system available anywhere in Central London. We have a variety of line types ISDN Lines and analogue BT lines; we also have a fibre circuit with Colt (backed up with the most demanding Service Level agreements) offering state of the art IP video conferencing capabilities. This makes us the ideal venue for AGM’s, conferences and marketing seminars and webcasts.

Cavendish Conference Venues – fully traceable menus

January 7th, 2010

Eagle eyed focus on food quality. Full traceability to a named herd for all meat. Calorie Counts on all menus, Organic Menus, specific menus showing full traceability of all ingredients.  Menus guarantying locally produced ingredients.

Perhaps because of this we at Cavendish Conference Venues have won the mandate to host  major new conference is set to whip up new inspiration for developing and marketing foods for children, taking into account current trends, nutritional needs, and the hard business sense.

Children represent a high potential market for food manufacturers. Although many kids are picky-eaters who are keen on trendy foods with appealing packaging or marketing messages, they do have specific nutritional needs to help development and learning.

For food manufacturers aiming at this niche, it is a challenge to develop products that children want to eat, and parents and carers are prepared to buy.

At the same time, childhood obesity is a pressing concern as some 55 per cent of boys and 70 per cent of girls are predicted to be overweight or obese by 2050. The food industry has been roundly criticised for marketing of products that are high in salt, sugar and saturated fat, and are of questionable nutritional value, to children.

Even though some manufacturers have pledged more responsible marketing for products intended for youngsters, some campaigners believe more action is called for – and even regulation.
