London’s No 1 Venue for Green Meetings, The Guardain and Sustain magazine say so !

November 21st, 2011

Cavendish Conference Venues position as the greenest most sustainable group of venues in Central London has been recognised by a raft of recent event wins. First of sustain magazine the leading voice of green building practises chose the Cavendish for their November event highlighting

Latest developments in whole life carbon in construction. Key topics include embodied carbon, supply chain carbon, renewable materials and low carbon construction.

Leading UK experts will present their latest findings and a range of interesting case studies. These include an overview of the London 2012 Olympics, on site carbon, retrofit for the future and sustainable offices. The Environment Agency will also give an overview of their newest carbon calculator for construction.

As well as the latest developments, the conference will look at examples of how whole life carbon is being addressed in the construction sector and what organisations need to be working towards.

This was followed by an event a week later by an event at our Hallam Conference Centre  near Oxford Circus entitled Be Lean, Be Green – Energy Efficiency and Cost Saving in Private Residential Properties.

Then the cream on the cake the guardian chose us for their sustainability symposium.

Green Venues

September 8th, 2011

Should we tire ourselves with another green award, in these days of economic uncertainty does anyone give a ….in many ways with the green tourism gold accreditation the only London venue so accredited maybe we have reached the pinnacle of our potential and we should turn our attentions elsewhere

Are all conferences the same ?

May 20th, 2010

Sometimes in this business you get the feeling that all conferences are basically the same, incomprehensible titles, men in suits etc. NOT HERE NOT RECENTLY. In the last month we have had anarchistic demonstrators, geriatric flashers and now dignity in death. Contestants on have I got news for you might be able to see a connection here, I can’t. I guess it doesn’t really matter the message is clear we at Cavendish Conference Venues (Mayfair Conference Centre, Cavendish Conference Centre, America Square Conference Centre, Hallam Conference Centre) have a venue for everyone, I am tempted to say alive or dead though that might be in bad taste.

The Impossible Dilemma Profit or Virtue

May 17th, 2010

The doom email arrived this morning ‘As a result of the election and hung parliament ….. will need to cut costs’

What do you do ? With the grisly spectacle of Gorgeous George Osborne and his deathly side kick Mr Cable wielding the death axe of cuts we certainly cannot afford to loose any clients. The gander has no fat, there is no margin we can eat into. As night follows day if we are to cut our costs we have to make savings somewhere, but where?

One of the lowest hanging fruit in our Garden of Eden is entitled Green Strategy. Going Green is expensive, to give an example, composting our food waste is 36% more expensive then sending it to landfill. Like rabbits in the headlights we don’t know what to do, for now the strategy for on high is fudge. A classic recipe involving beating up our suppliers and scrimping on the margins, (no more chocolate biscuits etc)

generate your own

April 23rd, 2010

We are running out of ideas as how to further reduce our environmental footprint. One idea being actively investigated by our green group is the possibility of installing some excise bikes at our Hallam Conference Centre, the aim being to link them up to a small generator and help power the place, who knows maybe we could even sell some of the stuff back to the grid. I am not sure how many delegates would use it even we have installed delegate showers etc. Our better bet might be the staff, our most flatulent of chefs recently completed a marathon, virtually a one man power source.

Source locally, learn from the french

March 1st, 2010

When it comes to increasing the sustainability of our conference and meeting venues what can we learn from our continental cousins in particular the French. One thing comes thing over louder and clearer than anything, sourcing local produce. When was the last time you saw any reference to locality on a Hilton or Marriott menu. One group who David Like are trying to do something an out this are Cavendish conference venues, a small group of 5 London conference centre’s. (Mayfair Conference Centre, Cavendish Conference Centre, America Square Conference Centre and the Hallam Conference Centre) They have menus showing the exact source of all produce (down to the herd) PDFs on their website showing the postcode of all suppliers segmented by the purchase value etc. Surely this is truly learning the lessons of our continental neighbors rather than the British gimmicks of handmade Indian delegate bags etc.
