What does the New Year herald for that stalwart of the British economy the conference centre? (why the wider  conference industry has never gained wider respect is beyond me, it seems to me it is one of those rare commodites a British success story, I get the distinct impression many of the major players are UK based, Informa, IQPC blah blah. Even more astounding when you consider that one of the largest of these companies was owned by an eminent politician, deputy chairmen of the conservative party and according to the Sunday Times sex addict who indulged in Mosley (he of F1 fame) like Nazi games.

After that tortuous detour through British repression back to the point, the year ahead. It’s hard to see that the VAT increase is going to have much affect. After all throughout last year you got massive gyrations in price on a weekly and certainly on a seasonal basis as individual groups desperately sort to establish the sweet point between supply and demand. The basic problem I think was that no-one from the governor the aptly named Mr King downwards had any idea what the demand was, to quote that often used excuse for all politicians and spineless economists ‘we are in uncharted waters.
